Driven by a desire for a more hands-on approach to construction, Curtis Thompson left his position as chief estimator at a larger firm in 1997 to start his own construction company. His son, Curt Thompson, joined the family business after college, blening time-tested craftsmanship with modern innovation. Today they are equal partners, carrying forward a vision of quality craftsmanship and personal accountability.
CT General Contractors specializes in commercial construction, focusing on projects ranging from $50,000 to $10 million. Our portfolio spans a diverse array of projects, from institutional buildings for the University of Alabama at Birmingham, to restaurant chains like Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby’s. Our ability to handle the intricacies of publicly funded bid work, coupled with long-standing relationships with private clients, has allowed us to maintain a steady workflow and grow sustainably.
We believe our hands-on approach is what sets us apart. “We want owners to know who we are,” Curt Thompson explains. CT General Contractors believes ownership should have direct involvement in every project, from bid to completion. It’s not uncommon to find Curtis or Curt on-site, ensuring quality and maintaining client relationships.

Curt joined CT General Contractors in 2005 after earning his bachelors at the University of Alabama’s School of Business and masters at UAB’s Engineering School.
Curt’s leadership style is rooted in personal accountability and direct involvement. He believes in building lasting relationships with clients, and ensuring every project receives the attention to detail and quality that defines CT General Contractors. He can often be found on job-sites, working closely with employees and subcontractors to maintain the high standards that have earned the company recognition and awards.
